Project ABLE, Inc

Experience

Project ABLE, Inc. is a consumer-centered organization that provides peer-to-peer support for individuals with mental health and/or co-occurring issues. These supports acknowledge human dignity, the capacity for individuals to recover and promote life long empowerment.

Project ABLE is a non-profit "umbrella" organization that offers an array of consumer-directed and peer support services. The goal of Project ABLE is to provide and promote peer-designed and led programs that empower recovering people to lead healthy lives as active members of their communities.

Project ABLE pursues consumer empowerment through education programs that share information, support programs that build confidence and leadership roles that promote self efficacy. The education programs teach skills for managing and recovering from substance abuse and mental illness, train consumers to lead and facilitate support groups, and help consumers understand the healthcare and governmental systems that provide professional services. The support projects help consumers build a network of family, friends and peers who can give them the support they need to direct their lives in ways that reflect their own values.
